Bishkek, June 27, 2019. /Kabar/. "Effective counter-terrorism results can be achieved only collectively. This requires long-term cooperation in the political, military, financial and ideological fields," President Sooronbay Jeenbekov said at the meeting with participants of the session of the Committee of Secretaries of Security Councils of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) member states.
The President’s press service reported that Jeenbekov noted the importance of this event on the eve of the CSTO Council of Heads of State meeting in autumn 2019. He stressed the current international situation is characterized by complex and ambiguous development trends.
"Various challenges to the CSTO and threats to collective security emerge in a globalized world. They are in different scales and at times make themselves felt in our countries. First of all, it is terrorism and extremism. We know about the powerful resource feeding of terrorism by certain forces. There is an increasingly clear link between cross-border crime, the drug mafia, extremist movements and the terrorist underground," Jeenbekov said.
"Militant leaders are trying to preserve the potential of their formations, regrouping and redirecting their forces and funds to countries bordering the outer perimeter of the CSTO. First of all, it is Afghanistan. Today, the territory of Afghanistan is a stronghold of destructive forces for swaying the situation in the region. The number of terrorist acts and drugs produced in this country continues to grow," the Kyrgyz leader stressed.
In this regard, Jeenbekov stressed the importance of the implementation of documents on the consolidation of the Tajik-Afghan border and countering attempts to falsify history.
"There are attempts to devalue the value of the contribution of the Soviet people in the defeat of fascism. A very important decision on the participation of servicemen of each CSTO member state in the military parade in Moscow on May 9, 2020 was taken at the initiative of the Russian side," President Jeenbekov noted.
The President conveyed greetings to the heads of CSTO member states.
Valery Semerikov, Acting Secretary General of the CSTO congratulated the Kyrgyz side on the successful holding of the meeting of the Council of the Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation on behalf of the CSTO Secretaries of Security Council.
The meeting was attended by Secretaries of the Security Council of Kyrgyzstan Damir Sagynbayev, Armenia Armen Grigoryan, Belarus Stanislav Zas, Assistant to the President, Secretary of the Security Council of Kazakhstan Kalmukhambet Kasymov, Russia Nikolai Patrushev, Tajikistan Mahmadali Vatanzoda, and Valery Semerikov, Acting Secretary of the CSTO.
