Bishkek, July 6, 2019. / Kabar /. Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov met with visiting EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice President of the European Commission Federica Mogherini.
Welcoming Federica Mogherini, who arrived in Kyrgyzstan for official visit, President Jeenbekov congratulated the European Union on the successful holding of parliamentary elections, the Kyrgyz President’s press service reported.
"We attach one of the priority values ​​to our cooperation with the European Union, which we consider to be an important partner," said the President, noting the successful conclusion of negotiations with the EU on a new Agreement on extended partnership and cooperation. He expressed confidence that the agreement with the EU would give additional impetus and open a new page of bilateral cooperation between the countries.
Jeenbekov expressed gratitude for the socio-economic assistance provided by the European Union to Kyrgyzstan, noting that with this support decisive steps are being taken towards sustainable development.
The head of state emphasized that Kyrgyzstan remains committed to the chosen course of strengthening democracy, building an economically sustainable and stable state, ensuring human rights and freedoms, the rule of law, social justice, tolerance and pluralism of opinions, ensuring the quality and standard of living of the population, while emphasizing that decisions are made taking into account and in the interests of public opinion.
The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy expressed gratitude for the warm welcome, noting that her visit and frequent meetings with the leadership of Kyrgyzstan provide a good opportunity to build even more fruitful cooperation.
She stressed that all bilateral agreements were reached thanks to the political will of President Sooronbay Jeenbekov and noted that within the framework of the Agreement on Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation, the EU program aimed at integrated water resources management in the Kyrgyz Republic for 2020-2022 will be implemented. She added that the financing is also planned to be directed to the budget support of the country and the provision of assistance to rural regions, infrastructure projects in the field of digitalization and education.
"We attach great importance to cooperation with Kyrgyzstan and are aimed at further deepening the partnership. I want to note that trade and economic relations between Kyrgyzstan and the EU have reached a fairly high level," Mogherini said.
Jeenbekov and Mogherini exchanged views on judicial and legal reform carried out in Kyrgyzstan, the new EU Strategy on Central Asia, the measures taken in Kyrgyzstan by the state to develop the regions and digitalize the country, projects to ensure clean drinking water, cooperation in education, economics and trade.
