Bishkek, July 6, 2019. / Kabar /. Kyrgyzstan and the European Union initialed a new extended partnership agreement, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Chingiz Aidarbekov told after the talks with High Commissioner for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Union Federica Mogherini.
He noted that this agreement is the result of joint work with the EU, which the parties have consistently conducted since 2017.
"The new agreement will provide an updated legal framework for cooperation with the European Union, taking into account the formation of a comprehensive development of cooperation between the sides," he said.
Aidarbekov also said that the new agreement reflects the policy of digitalization and regional development promoted by Kyrgyzstan within the framework of national programs, including technical and other support to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
"The agreement provides for strengthening and deepening cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and the European Union in such areas as economic, legal, sectoral cooperation, which include the areas of education, labor, social development. We hope that it will contribute to the development of our cooperation with the EU in the field of trade and investment, given the GSP +status," the foreign minister added.
In addition, Aidarbekov said that during the meeting the sides discussed issues of further inter-parliamentary cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and the EU, taking into account the elections to the European Parliament in May.
"For Kyrgyzstan, the experience of European institutions in the development of parliamentary democracy, in institutional and legislative work is important," added the Kyrgyz minister.
