AKIPRESS.COM - A gunman that killed 2 in the Khan-Tengri camp in Issyk-Kul is still at large, the manhunt entered 11th day.
The murder occurred on July 4 when the gunman Sergey Smirnov born in 1990 shot dead two co-workers at the Khan-Teniri camp and fled the scene taking a 48-year-old woman hostage. The woman was freed by him the same night. The suspect told the woman that "he is not going to give up alive."
The manhunt is under way. Criminal probe into murder was launched. Deputy Interior Minister Mirlan Kanimetov is leading the operation to locate the perpetrator.
The suspect is armed. After the murder, he took a rifle with 27 bullets with him.
Search operation is complicated by sharp increase in water level at the Enilchek River because of the breakthrough of the glacial Lake Mertsbaher. It is impossible to pass the river and SWAT soldiers are risking their own lives.
The Tur-Khan-Tengri LLC camp is located in the syrt zone of Ak-Su district of Issyk-Kul region. The Tur-Khan-Tengri LLC provides hunting services to foreigners and is engaged in animal husbandry. The camp is located 180 km from Karakol town in Enylchek village, 2750 meters above sea level. The total area of hunting grounds is 50,538 hectares.
