Tokayev abandons appointment of national university rectors by president

AKIPRESS.COM - President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev canceled the procedure of appointment of rectors of national universities of the country by president, zakon.kz reports. Now rectors will be elected by the government's decree.
The head of state on Twitter said he ordered the Minister of Education to prepare documents on appointment of rectors of the national universities by competition. The current procedure is lifted, he noted.
The list of national universities of Kazakhstan:
1. Al-Farabi Kazakh National University;
2. L. N. Gumilyov Eurasian University;
3. Kazakh National University of the Arts;
4. Kazakh National Academy of Arts named after Temirbek Zhurgenov;
5. Kazakh National Research Technical University after K.I.Satpaev;
6. RGP Kazakh National Agrarian University;
7. Kazakh National Pedagogical University named by Abai;
8. Kazakh National Conservatory named after Kurmangazy;
9. S.D. Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University.
