UNDP assistance in improving electoral process corresponds to course for development of democratic institutions

Bishkek, July 22, 2019. / Kabar /. UNDP's assistance in improving the electoral process, in order to increase its transparency, corresponds to the policy chosen by the Kyrgyz Republic towards the development of democratic institutions, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic Zamirbek Askarov told at a meeting with the United Nations Development Program Administrator Achim Steiner.
During the meeting, the sides, noting the high level of cooperation, discussed a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and UNDP, the Kyrgyz Government’s press service reported.
Askarov informed about the intention of our country to submit a Voluntary National Review of the achievements of the Sustainable Development Goals in 2020.
At the same time, he stressed that the National Strategy for Sustainable Development of the Kyrgyz Republic for 2018–2040 was approved and actively implemented in the country, and also spoke about the measures taken in the Year of Regional Development and Digitalization of the country announced by the President of the Kyrgyz Republic as an important condition for the effective implementation of policies to achieve sustainable development of the republic.
For his part, UNDP Administrator Achim Steiner said that his intention to continue developing cooperation with the Kyrgyz side.
At the same time, he noted that one of the promising areas is cooperation in the framework of projects and activities on the digitization of public administration and the economy of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The vice prime minister informed about the plans to conduct the High-level Forum on Development. The forum will discuss issues of enhancing cooperation with partners in such priority areas as regional development, digitalization, climate change and disaster management, water issues, human development, investment and financing development programs.
Askarov invited Achim Steiner to visit Kyrgyzstan.
In turn, Achim Steiner noted that the issues discussed cover all the most priority areas of development issues. In this regard, he expressed the readiness of UNDP, together with other development partners, to cooperate in these areas.
