Land area for agricultural products expands annually – Agriculture Ministry

Bishkek, July 23, 2019. /Kabar/. The land area for agricultural products is being expanded annually, Employees of the Agriculture Ministry told during the press conference at Kabar News Agency.
Aijan Dzhakshylykova, head of the Legal Support Department, noted that the law on organic agriculture was adopted on May 18. At the moment, the elaboration of the law on transition from traditional to organic farming has already started.
"This transition is very important for us in terms of exports. Certification will take place on a friendly basis. We have to develop our internal organic standard to ensure a quality product," she said.
"Kyrgyz meat, milk and fruit should become a brand of domestic agricultural products. The land area for agricultural production is expanding every year. First of all, it's cotton, medicinal herbs, nuts, prunes and so on," Jigitali Jumaliyev, head of the Department for development of agriculture, seed production and organic agriculture said.
"In 2004, we started producing bio-cotton for the first time. At that time, the area was only 40 hectares, and by 2018, the area had expanded to 800 hectares and we produced 218 tons of cotton. We mainly supply it to European countries and plan to increase the amount to 300 tons in the near future. In addition, this is increasing the interest of farmers," the department head added.
