Kyrgyz female athlete wins gold at World karate championship in Czech Republic

Bishkek, July 24, 2019. /Kabar/. Female athlete from Kyrgyzstan Emilia Almazova won the gold medal at the 13th World karate-do Shotokan championship.
The press service of the State Agency for Youth Affairs, Physical Culture and Sports reported that, the competition was held in Hradec Králové (Czech Republic) from 19 to 21 July and was attended by 25 Kyrgyzstanis.
According to the results of the tournament, the Kyrgyz kumite team managed to win nine awards, including one gold, one silver and seven bronze. Kyrgyzstan is ranked 19th among 52 participating countries in the team event.
The Kyrgyz men team became the third, losing to Belgium with a score of 3:2. The best was the Japanese national team.
Shōtōkan is a style of karate, developed from various martial arts by Gichin Funakoshi and his son Gigo (Yoshitaka) Funakoshi. Gichin is widely credited with popularizing "karate do" through a series of public demonstrations, and by promoting the development of university karate clubs, including those at Keio, Waseda, Hitotsubashi (Shodai), Takushoku, Chuo, Gakushuin, and Hosei.
