Bishkek, July 24, 2019. /Kabar/. The incident between Kyrgyz and Tajik citizens at the Kyrgyz-Tajik border caused the evacuation of more than 600 residents of the village of Aksai (total population - about 2 thousand people) to Batken town, Begimai Asanova, the Red Crescent Society of Kyrgyzstan spokeswoman said.
"As of July 24, 2019, additional 351 people had been displaced from the village of Aksai to Batken," she said.
According to her data, on July 23, the National Red Crescent Society of the Kyrgyz Republic (NRCS) distributed 1,500 liters of bottled water, breakfast and lunch for 274 people; lunch was also provided for an additional 300 people. 16 hygiene kits for newborns were distributed. Psychosocial support activities for children and women were organized in two locations for evacuees.
She added today, July 24, the Red Crescent also distributes bottled water and provides psychosocial support to families in 5 shelters for evacuees. In addition, breakfast was provided for 50 people at Lenin School.
"The Red Crescent Society of Kyrgyzstan coordinates all its activities through local coordination mechanisms (local authorities)," she added.
Evacuation of 315 residents of the village of Aksai to Batken town after the incident on the evening of July 22 was reported earlier.
17 people were injured, including police and border guards. According to the press service of the Sate Border Service, the situation in the region remains serious.
The length of Kyrgyzstan-Tajikistan border is 970 km, 519 of which have been agreed upon.
