Bishkek, July 30, 2019. /Kabar/. The Government of the Kyrgyz Republic has approved "The Framework Program on Ensuring Phytosanitary Security of the Kyrgyz Republic for 2019-2023". The relevant decision was signed by Prime Minister Mukhammedkalyi Abylgaziev, the Government's press service said.
Agriculture is an important sector of the country's economy, and its export is one of the main sources of foreign exchange earnings to Kyrgyzstan’s economy.
Ubiquitous and growing threats and risks posed by quarantine, especially dangerous and harmful organisms, for commodity producers, plant biodiversity and natural habitats, as well as ecosystems remain the main problem for the plant protection and quarantine service of the republic.
In this regard, one of the priority areas is the implementation of the tasks of the phytosanitary security system development.
The main part of the Framework Program focuses on four main priorities, the first one ensures sufficient plant quarantine capacity, the second ensures that appropriate phytosanitary import measures are applied to protect a country's plant resources, the third provides a reliable export certification system for international trade in plant products, the fourth aims to ensure the reduction of food security and environmental risks through supervisory (monitoring) activities.
Each of these priority areas will be focused on addressing the fundamental issues arising from them.
