Bishkek, July 30, 2019. / Kabar /. Preventing and combating trafficking in persons is one of the priorities of state policy aimed at combating crime and protecting the rights of victims of trafficking, Vice Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic Altynai Omurbekova told at the opening of the photo exhibition dedicated to the World Day to Combat Trafficking in Persons, the press service of the government said.
She said that the ongoing activities are aimed at attracting the attention of the public, and in particular of young people, to the problem of human trafficking and its consequences.
"Human trafficking has become a global phenomenon and is recognized as one of the most dangerous types of transnational organized crime. There are a number of factors that create the preconditions for human trafficking. One of them is the difficult socio-economic situation, unemployment associated with it, leading to an increase in the number of migrants both inside and outside its borders in search of higher wages and better living conditions," said the Deputy Prime Minister.
Omurbekova stressed that the prevention of human trafficking should be carried out on the basis of the recognition of the complex nature of this problem by all state authorities, international and non-governmental organizations.
She informed that currently in Kyrgyzstan, within the framework of prevention and human trafficking activities, the necessary legislative and international contractual framework has been formed, the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic is implementing the Anti-Trafficking Program for 2017-2020, aimed at raising awareness and educational work among citizens.
Omurbekova noted that the Kyrgyz Republic always strives to confirm its commitment to the fundamental principles of protecting human rights and interests.
A photo-exhibition dedicated to the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, announced by the United Nations on July 30, is opened in Bishkek.
The purpose of the exhibition is to show, in an accessible and visual form, the risks faced by people who are victims of human trafficking, to demonstrate the lives of migrants abroad, the transport on which they reach their destinations, their living conditions and their working conditions.
