AKIPRESS.COM - Minister of Interior of Kazakhstan Erlan Turgumbayev told about possible amendments to the criminal code and the start of raids in colonies on compliance with human rights protection, Zakon.kz reported.
"The Interior Ministry jointly with the internal affairs department will check the facts occurred in the village of Zarechnoe and other carry out raids in other colonies, where torture is practiced to prevent such practices," he said.
The Ministry has recently held a forum with participation of foreign experts and NGOs that deal with reforming in the penitentiary system and further improvement of work in this system.
Five employees of a colony in Zarechnoe village of Almaty region, including deputy chief of the colony, were detained after video of torture of prisoners went viral on social media. Investigation results will establish the level of restriction against the detainees, the Minister noted.
