Turkmen Foreign Ministry, International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies discuss cooperation

AKIPRESS.COM - The meeting was held in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan with the Under Secretary General for Programmes and Operations of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) Jagan Chapagain who has arrived to Ashgabat on a working visit on July 31.
During the meeting, the parties noted the effectiveness of humanitarian cooperation between the IFRC and Turkmenistan. The guest expressed gratitude to the Turkmen side for fruitful cooperation. It was noted that the IFRC Representative Office has started to function in Ashgabat that will facilitate the process of implementing the joint projects and programmes.
Also the representative of the IFRC emphasized the success of holding the workshop concerning the law in the area of natural disasters which has been held in Ashgabat the day before. The active participation of the representatives of corresponding ministries and agencies of Turkmenistan in this event was noted. Speaking about the legal basis for the implementation of joint actions, the parties agreed to continue working on the development of the Framework Programme of Cooperation.
During the talks, the vital role of Turkmenistan in realizing the humanitarian aid and disaster response in the region was noted. Thus, the assistance of the country to the neighboring Afghanistan was mentioned. The issue of establishing cooperation between the National Society of Red Crescent of Turkmenistan and the Afghan Red Crescent Society was considered.
In the end, the parties expressed hope for the continuation of joint actions aimed at providing medical and social aid to the people in crises and emergency situations.
