AKIPRESS.COM - President of Mongolia Khaltmaagiin Battulga, who is currently visiting the United States of America, met with representatives of Mongolians living and working there at the Embassy of Mongolia in Washington, Montsame reports.
As of today, there are more than 30 thousand people from Mongolia living in the US, of which, some six thousand are employed or studying in the East Coast area, eight thousand in Chicago, two thousand in Los Angeles, four thousand in San Francisco and 1500 Mongolians in Seattle. Also, there are 58 foundations, associations and non-governmental organizations operating in the US, formed by Mongolian people.
Opening the meeting attended by around 180 Mongolian citizens, President Kh.Battulga said, "It has been two years since I took the oath of office as the President of Mongolia and I have held meetings and established agreements with heads of states of our two neighbors, China and Russia during this time. Now, I am paying a visit to the United States upon the invitation of the President of the US Donald Trump and the relationship between Mongolia and the USA has been declared to be Strategic Partnership, smoothing the way to resolve some bigger issues in bilateral ties". Then, the President invited the participants of the meeting to voice their views and concerns.
Some Mongolian citizens, including N.Enkhtaivan who came from New York City to Washington asked about the bill on duty-free treatment of Mongolian cashmere products importing to the US market and punishment for politicians with hidden offshore accounts. Expressing their concerns over some problems ongoing in Mongolia, the participants also requested to take some sites with cultural or historic significance under state protection including Erdenezuu and Amarbayasgalan Monasteries and Noyon Uul Mountain and asked the President to improve the opportunities for Mongolian young people presently studying in the US to live and work in their home country. Following them, President Kh.Battulga said that some works are being done in order to increase employment and promote industrialization.
The meeting was attended by head of Parliamentary committee of Social Policy, Education, Culture and Science D.Oyunkhorol, Parliament member Z.Narantuya and Mongolian Ambassador to the US Yo.Otgonbayar.
