Belarus, Uzbekistan to cooperate in climate change adaptation, waste management

MINSK, 5 August (BelTA) – The Belarusian Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection and the State Committee for Ecology and Environmental Protection of Uzbekistan will cooperate in climate change adaptation and waste management. The two agencies have signed the corresponding agreement, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection.
The agreement has been developed to expand cooperation between Belarus and Uzbekistan for the appropriate response to ecological threats at the national, regional and global levels. "There are plans to cooperate in several areas: climate change and adaptation to its consequences, development of alternative energy resources, integrated waste management, environmental monitoring, atmospheric air protection, rational use of water resources and improvement of their quality, including within the cross-border frame. Another important venue of cooperation is the conservation of biodiversity, including the development of the system of protected areas. Belarus and Uzbekistan will work together to improve state control and surveillance in the field of environmental protection and rational nature management," the press service said.
Specialists of the two countries will exchange best practices, scientific and technical information and new technology in environmental protection, develop and implement joint programs and projects of technical assistance. Plans also include meetings, training sessions, seminars and conferences, and efforts to create conditions for enhancing qualifications of specialists.
