Measles outbreak registered in Samarkand

AKIPRESS.COM - Measles outbreak is registered in Samarkand. From January to August 5, the number of suspected measles cases made 419, measles was confirmed in 29 cases, the Ministry of Health said. The measles virus was brought to Uzbekistan from other countries, according to the World Health Organization. 22,310 people were vaccinated against measles in 2018.
The main reason of measles outbreak in Samarkand region is virus coming from abroad. In order to prevent further spread of measles among contact persons, 11,101 people were vaccinated. Lethal cases were not registered, the Ministry of Health said.
In 2017 and 2018 Uzbekistan received WHO certificate of measles and rubella elimination, which speaks of absence of endemic transmission of local measles cases.
Additional 100,000 doses of measles vaccines were received for vaccination of contact persons and this way to stop spread, the Ministry of Health said.
