Bishkek, Aug.13, 2019. /Kabar/. In the context of events on Aug.7-8 in Koi-Tash village, 8 criminal cases have been initiated against former President Almazbek Atambayev's supporters, Otkurbek Dzhamshitov, the Prosecutor General of Kyrgyzstan told during the press conference at Kabar News Agency.
He noted that, in particular, cases of mass riots, murder, hostage-taking, four cases of attempted murder and hooliganism have been initiated.
The Prosecutor General added an inter-ministerial commission of investigators had been established.
Prosecutor Dzhamshitov said Farid Niyazov (the former head of the President’s Office), Alga Kylychev (the member of Atambayev Support Group), Amantur Dzhamgyrchiyev (the Aikol Ala-Too Public Association Chairman) and Marat Shamenov were detained after hostage-taking and mass riots. All the abovementioned Atambayev’s supporters were detained by court order until Oct. 8.
Dzhamshitov explained ex-President Atambayev is suspected of using weapons, organizing mass riots, obstructing investigations, taking hostages, killing one person and attempting to kill one.
A clash between law enforcers and supporters of Atambayev occurred on Aug. 7 in the evening in Koi-Tash village, in the house of Almazbek Atambayev during the forcible transfer of the former President to the investigative bodies in the case of kingpin Aziz Batukayev.
As a result, Usen Niyazbekov, deputy head of the Alfa special unit of the State Committee for National Security was killed and more than 40 people were injured.
On Aug.8, law enforcement agencies detained Atambayev at his home in Koi-Tash, and then he was placed in the detention facility of the State Committee for National Security until Aug.26.
Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated in connection with the mass riots in Koi-Tash, the killed special forces officer and the injured law enforcement officers.
