Activists demanding release of political prisoners in Almaty

AKIPRESS.COM - Some single-person protests are being held in the city of Almaty in support of ex-Chief of Kazatomprom Mukhtar Zhakishev and other political prisoners, Vlast.kz reports. The hearing on consideration of petition appeal on Zhakishev's release on parole will take place today in Ust-Kamenogorsk.
"We gathered here to demand the release of political prisoners that should not occur in a democratic country. Our Constitution is violated, therefore, we should unite and demand. We are here, because mothers, women are sitting in the prison. Zhakishev has been sitting there for more than 10 years," one of the activists said.
Police officers arrived at the site to request the protesters to disperse.
