Jeenbekov stresses importance of improving quality of selection competition for judges

Bishkek, Sept.10, 2019. /Kabar/. Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov received Elmira Baryktabasova, the Chairwoman of the Council on Judges Selection.
The sides exchanged views on topical issues, related to the activities of the Council, the Kyrgyz President’s press service reported.
Jeenbekov stressed the importance of improving the quality of the selection competition for judges.
He noted the judicial and legal reform is headed by the human factor. In this regard, he urged to take into account not only the professional, but also personal and moral qualities of the candidates when considering candidates for vacant positions.
The President also drew attention to the need to improve the legislative framework governing the selection process of judges in order to address specific gaps.
Chairwoman Baryktabasova informed President Jeenbekov about the Council's activities within the framework of the judicial and legal reform, the effectiveness of the work done and the immediate plans for the future.
According to her data, from December 2017 to September 2019, out of 171 candidates for the post of judges, submitted to the Kyrgyz President, 63 judges were rejected for reasonable reasons and returned to the Council on Judges Selection.
