Kyrgyz Permanent Representative to UN Mukashev takes part in meeting of SPECA member countries

Bishkek, Sept. 10, 2019. / Kabar /. Daniyar Mukashev, Permanent Representative of Kyrgyzstan to the UN and other international organizations in Geneva, took part in a meeting of countries participating in the United Nations Special Program for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA), the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.
The meeting participants discussed the current state of SPECA and its prospects, including preparations for the upcoming SPECA Economic Forum in Ashgabat in November 2019, the sessions of two Working Groups, as well as the 14th session of the Governing Council of the Special Program.
Discussing the issues of SPECA activities, the meeting participants noted its positive contribution to the development of the region and outlined further steps in order to more effectively use the expert and technical potential of the UN Economic Commission for Europe. In particular, the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, Algaerova, took the initiative to create a new institute within SPECA.
In turn, Mukashev presented the position of Kyrgyzstan in the Special Program and, in the framework of the upcoming chairmanship of the country in SPECA in 2020, noted that the Kyrgyz Republic intends to make every effort to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation in the region in all areas of interaction.
The United Nations Special Program for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA) was launched in 1998 to strengthen subregional cooperation in Central Asia and its integration into the global economy. SPECA countries are Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. SPECA activities are carried out within the framework of the Working Groups in the following areas: water, energy and the environment; sustainable transport, transit and connectivity; trade development; statistics; knowledge-based development, gender equality and the SDGs.
