AKIPRESS.COM - The Charjev district of Lebap region has not been selling flour at state prices for over a year, Chronicles of Turkmenistan reports.
In August local low-quality flour can be purchased from private vendors at the price of 100 manats per a 50-kilo sack. However, over the past few weeks it has not been available even at 200 manats.
The situation with regard to flour supply is somewhat better in Turkmenabad, the administrative centre of Lebap velayat, where Kazakhstan-produced flour can be bought at 200 to 230 manats per sack.
However, the price hike for bread is also noticeable there. Milk-based flat bread, which was sold at 3 manats in July, now costs 5 manats. The price for cream-based flat bread increased from 5 to 7 manats whereas the price for petir (a flat bread from puff dough) went up from 5 to 8 manats.
Residents of other Turkmen provinces also report that flour per rated quotas at state prices has not been available for a while. People are urged to buy it in the markets or in Ashgabat.
Previously, it was reported that in early September locally-produced flour disappeared from the counters of Turkmenabad stores and the prices for bread doubled.
"Chronicles of Turkmenistan" has previously reported that the statement on the execution of the wheat harvest plan made by the authorities did not improve the situation pertaining to provision of flour to residents.
