One border guard killed as a result of shooting on Kyrgyz-Tajik border

Bishkek, Sept. 16, 2019. / Kabar /. A border incident involving the use of weapons took place on the Kyrgyz-Tajik section of the state border, the publis relations department of the State Border Service the Kyrgyz Republic reported.
The Tajik side was the first to use weapons, shelling the Kyrgyz Maksat border post from group weapons, and then the temporary Sai border post in Leilek region of Batken Oblast.
According to preliminary data, 1 soldier of the State Border Service of the Kyrgyz Republic was killed.
According to data at 21:30, the shootout was stopped.
Border representatives of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan are negotiating to prevent further escalation of the incident.
The reason for the incident was that Tajik citizens began construction work on a disputable territory of the state border, in response to this, a Kyrgyz citizen also began building a fence on the territory of his house located in this area.
A meeting was held between the border representatives of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, at which a decision was made to stop the construction work by the parties.
But despite the agreements reached, contrary to the requirements of border guards, Tajik citizens continued to work. In response to the actions of Tajiks, construction work was continued by a citizen of Kyrgyzstan.
At around 19:30 pm, Tajik soldiers in an aggressive form demanded to stop construction from a Kyrgyz citizen, a verbal skirmish turned into a shootout.
