AKIPRESS.COM - Uzbekistani labor migrants transferred about $2 billion from Russia to their homeland in the first half of 2019, the Central Bank of Russia reported. This is by $200 million more than in the same period in 2018. In the first half of last year, $1.8 billion was transferred from Russia to Uzbekistan.
Uzbekistan is the leader among the CIS countries in remittances from Russia. Tajikistan ranks second ($1.1 billion) and Kyrgyzstan ($935 million) ranks third.
The number of migrant workers from Uzbekistan in Russia has increased over the past three years. If in 2017 there were 1.9 million Uzbeks in Russia, in 2018 this figure was already 2 million, and as of July 1, 2019 the number of migrant workers from Uzbekistan reached 2.1 million, according to a report by the Gaidar Institute and the Russian Academy of National Economy.
