AKIPRESS.COM - Kazakhstan plans to give up on plastic bags and switch to alternative types of packaging that are environmentally friendly, Minister of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources Magzum Mirzagaliyev said. Actions to gradually reduce the use of polyethylene bags will be reflected in the memorandum, KTK reported.
The document was signed by Minister of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources Magzum Mirzagaliyev, Chairman of the Board of Atameken and Chairman of the Association of Environmental Organizations of Kazakhstan Aigul Solovyeva.
"Introduction of payment will allow to reduce the turnover of packages by 30%. Full refusal will be possible in 2025, work in this direction is under way," commented Mirzagaliyev.
Notably, every year, 5-6 million tons of solid household waste is generated in Kazakhstan, with only 10% of it being recycled.
