Bishkek, Sept. 23, 2019. / Kabar /. Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Chingiz Aidarbekov and U.S. Secretary of State Michael Pompeo discussed progress in preparing a draft bilateral agreement on cooperation.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, on the eve the delegation of Kyrgyzstan, headed by Aidarbekov, took part in the Central Asia + USA ministerial meeting (C5 + 1).
The meeting was also attended by U.S. Secretary of State Michael Pompeo, foreign ministers of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, as well as the ambassador of Turkmenistan to the United States.
The meeting participants discussed issues of cooperation in the fight against foreign militants, the issue of promoting regional security cooperation and strengthening regional economic partnership and development.
Aidarbekov announced the national priorities of Kyrgyzstan in accordance with the agenda, proposing to strengthen regional cooperation in this format with an emphasis on trade and economic cooperation both between the countries of Central Asia and in their relations with the United States.
At the end of their speeches, the parties agreed to continue active cooperation within the framework of the established format of cooperation between Central Asian countries and the United States.
Also, following the meeting, the Kyrgyz Foreign Minister held a brief bilateral meeting with US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo, where they noted ways to develop interaction between the Kyrgyz Republic and the United States, the process of preparing a draft bilateral cooperation agreement, as well as other important items on the agenda of Kyrgyz-American relations.
