Bishkek, Sept.26, 2019. /Kabar/. As part of his working visit to Issyk-Kul Oblast, Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov familiarized with rehabilitation of irrigation systems in villages of Svetlaya Polyana and Orgochor of Dzheti-Oguz region.
Director of the State Agency for Water Resources under the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic Kokumbek Tashtanaliyev said KGS 128.2 million was allocated for the works at the above irrigation facilities with the financial support of the World Bank.
With the full completion of their rehabilitation on more than 5 thousand hectares of land, there will be a possibility of prompt irrigation water supply for farmers, which has a beneficial effect on the agriculture of the region.
President Sooronbay Jeenbekov emphasized that the issues of improving the irrigation system are under his personal control.
Out of the 46 irrigation facilities, laid down in the State Irrigation Development Program, 31 facilities have been identified as a priority for the period until 2024. As of today, 2 irrigation facilities have been completed, and 14 are undergoing reconstruction and construction.
With the completion of 46 irrigation facilities, it will be possible to introduce 65 thousand hectares of new irrigated land, increase water availability on 51 thousand hectares of irrigated land, improve the melioration capacity on 50 thousand hectares of land, and transfer 9.5 thousand hectares of land from pumping stations to gravity irrigation. In addition, there will be an opportunity to create about 245 thousand new jobs.
