Bishkek, Sept.26, 2019. /Kabar/. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Chingiz Aidarbekov took part in the work of the Conference of States, that have ratified the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT), held in New York.
In his speech, Aidarbekov expressed his gratitude to Secretary-General of the UN Depositary General of the Treaty for convening the Conference and stressed its importance for the early entry into force of the CTBT, the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry’s press service reported.
In addition, he noted the Kyrgyz Republic's firm commitment to international cooperation on the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and the prohibition of nuclear tests in the world, and called on states, that have not signed and ratified the CTBT, to accede to the Treaty as soon as possible in the interests of global peace and security.
In addition, it was noted that Kyrgyzstan, as one of the active initiators and depositaries of the Treaty on Central Asian Nuclear Weapon Free Zone, views the establishment of regional nuclear-weapon-free zones as an effective tool to ensure the nuclear non-proliferation regime.
The Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) is a multilateral treaty that bans all nuclear explosions, for both civilian and military purposes, in all environments. It was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on Sept. 10 1996, but has not entered into force, as eight specific states have not ratified the treaty.
