Bishkek, Sept. 27, 2019. / Kabar /. Speaker of the Kyrgyz Parliament Dastanbek Dzhumabekov received today Chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe Georgy Tsereteli.
Dzhumabekov congratulated Tsereteli on his re-election as chairman of the OSCE PA and wished him success in responsible international activities, the press service of the Kyrgyz Parliament said.
During the meeting, the sides discussed issues of strengthening cooperation of Kyrgyzstan in the framework of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.
"Kyrgyzstan is making efforts to preserve and develop the parliamentary form of government. At the same time, democratic infrastructure is supported by national legislation in accordance with international law," said Dzhumabekov, adding that effective democratic transformations need the support of the international community.
Dzhumabekov noted his interest in further cooperation with the OSCE PA in the development of parliamentary democracy, the fight against corruption, strengthening regional security, as well as the organization and conduct of elections. He emphasized that the upcoming 2020 parliamentary lections will become another test for the strength of the democratic foundations of society in Kyrgyzstan.
Taking this opportunity, the speaker invited the OSCE PA members to monitor the 2020 parliamentary elections as international observers, noting that this would be an additional impulse to further strengthen partnership and cooperation in improving the electoral process in the OSCE area.
Dzhumabekov urged Tsereteli to assist in attracting investments from the OSCE region, saying that Kyrgyzstan has major investment projects in the field of transport and hydropower.
In turn, Chairman of the OSCE PA Georgy Tsereteli emphasized that the EU has developed and strictly adheres to the concept of rapprochement with the countries of Central Asia. Tsereteli noted that the OSCE and the Kyrgyz side have enormous experience in cooperation in many aspects, including the promotion of democratic processes and the improvement of electoral processes in Kyrgyzstan.
At the same time, Tsereteli emphasized that there is an unrealized potential in some areas where it is necessary to intensify joint work with international organizations in which Kyrgyzstan is an active member.
