Elimination of trams in Almaty was disputable decision — Tokayev

AKIPRESS.COM - President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said the decision to terminate the work of trams in Almaty was disputable, Sputnik Kazakhstan said. According to him, the better way is rehabilitation of vehicles, tram depot and leave this kind of public transport in the city.
The head of state added that the trams are successfully functioning in the European countries.
The traffic problem can be resolved not only by extending the roads, he said.
In late October 2017, then-mayor of Almaty Baurzhan Baibek during his visit to the tram depot told about his decision to terminate the work of trams in the city. The decision was explained by poor condition of the tramway tracks and uselessness of their rehabilitation.
Tokayev is in Almaty on his working visit.
