AKIPRESS.COM - The criminal case against former head of the special prosecutors service of the General Prosecutor's Office of Kazakhstan Olesya Keksel has been suspended, former Prosecutor General of the country, MP Kairat Kozhamzharov told a press conference of the Senate, Vlast.kz reports.
"The claim against Keksel was received about two months ago. On Saturday, she was told that the case was terminated due to the lack of criminal body. It might be resumed amid mass discussions. I personally know this from Keksel. The investigator called and said that there is no a criminal body in the case," Kozhamzharov said.
According to him, the checks against Keksel are connected with the case of former Vice Minister of Energy Anatoly Shkarupa.
Minister of Interior of Kazakhstan Erlan Turgumbayev earlier said that investigation was launched against Keksel.
The Minister told that Keksel is in Kazakhstan. Media earlier told that she went to Germany after resignation from the General Prosecutor's Office.
"Investigation is underway. A torture claim has been received. Therefore, to date this claim has been registered and investigation on unlawful methods has been launched. I can not speak of any investigation process, as the claim has been received from the General Prosecutor's Office," Turgumbayev said.
Keksel earlier served as deputy head of the investigation department of the National Bureau on Fighting Corruption (anti-corruption service). She was investigating the high profile corruption cases, including the case of ex-Prime Minister Serik Akhmetov, former ministers of health and national economy Zhaksylyk Doskaliyev and Kuandyk Bishimbayev, acting Chairman of the Pharmacy Committee of the Ministry of Health Larisa Pak.
Keksel for investigations in 2017 was awarded the Aibyn order and was recognized as a "number one civil servant of the year".
In January 2018, she was named as Head of special prosecutors of the General Prosecutor's Office and resigned in May 2019.
