AKIPRESS.COM - Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asia Alice Wells has commented on the statement made by President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev in support of mass media. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a videoconference on November 22 where he instructed government officials to be modest and in dialogue with people and mass media to make decisions reasonably and prudently according to the law.
The President said the head of the executive agency bears responsibility not only for his or her reputation, but for the reputation of the agency he or she heads.
Pleased to hear President Mirziyoyev condemn threats against the media in #Uzbekistan and reiterate his strong commitment to #MediaFreedom. Ensuring that journalists & bloggers are safe and free to do their jobs will help #Openness and #Democracy to grow only stronger. AGW
