21.5% of children born in unregistered marriages in 2018: Statistics

AKIPRESS.COM - 21.5% of infants were born in the unregistered marriages in 2018, the National Statistics Committee data showed. The growth trend of a number of registered marriages, which was observed since the beginning of 2000s has influenced the increase of the birth rate in the country. There was a slight decrease in the number of registered marriages in 2017-2018 comparing to the previous years. A number of registered marriages decreased by 9.8% in 2018 compared to 2014 and totaled 7.8 marriages per 1,000 population.
Mostly women aged of 20 to 30-years-old give birth, however in the recent years a birth rate has increased for women of older ages. A number of third child in the family has increased in 2018 by 21.7% compared to the same period in 2014.
