AKIPRESS.COM - State Customs Service of Turkmenistan and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on joint cooperation to stimulate innovation and modernize customs procedures to achieve sustainable development goals in the country, Turkmen Customs Service said in a press release on November 29, Turkmen media reports.
According to the document, the purpose of the memorandum signed with UNDP is to provide a basis for interaction between the Parties in areas of mutual interest within the framework of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
In accordance with the memorandum, cooperation will be developed in such areas as the promotion of innovations and digital solutions in the field of customs, the exchange of information between the customs authorities of states, the establishment of a system for preliminary declaration, and the promotion of capacity development.
Automation of customs procedures opens up new opportunities for customs authorities, taking it into account the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan is collaborating with the UN Conference on Trade and Development to implement the Integrated Customs Information System (ASYCUDA).
Over the past 2 years, the State Customs Service has signed a number of bilateral data exchange agreements with the customs services of neighboring countries.
"We adopt best practices and standards and share our own best practices," the official website of the service notes. "All modernization measures are also aimed at achieving the sustainable development goals developed by the UN member countries."
Customs legislation is fully based on accepted international standards. The Customs Code of Turkmenistan is consistent with the requirements of the Kyoto Convention on the harmonization and unification of customs procedures.
