AKIPRESS.COM - Naryn region residents organized a sacrifice ritual 'tuloo' at the Kuvaky pass, when Kyrgyz people slaughter a farm animal as a sacrifice to get rid of bad luck in life on the occasion of a possible ban on uranium mining in Kyrgyzstan.
According to the organizers, representatives of the movement "Against Uranium" decided to hold tuloo on the occasion of the adoption of a bill by parliament in three readings.
The lawmakers, as well as residents of Ton and Kochkor districts, Balykchy and Bishkek city were invited to the event, however lawmakers did not appear.
The prayers were said near Urkun 1916 monument. The leader of the "Against uranium" movement Marat Akatov noted that the issue received public attention due to the joint efforts.
The activists who opposed the development of the Kyzyl-Ompol uranium deposit were awarded during the event.
Draft law banning geological exploration and mining of uranium and thorium deposits in Kyrgyzstan passed the third reading at the parliament on October 31.
The bill refers to activities of individuals, legal entities and types of subsoil use in the uranium and thorium deposits in Kyrgyzstan.
The bill proposes to ban any geological exploration and mining of uranium and thorium deposits, as well as development of radioactive tailings and waste dumps, as well as their transfer to individuals for further development and maintenance.
