'Don't make big deal out it' — advisor of Kazakh President on citizens reaction to statement of Ukrainian MFA

AKIPRESS.COM - Advisor of the Kazakh President Erlan Karin commented on the reaction of the Kazakhstanis to the statement of the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine after interview of Kassym-Jomart Tokayev with the Deutsche Welle.
According to the MFA of Ukraine, Ambassador of Kazakhstan Samat Ordabayev was invited to the diplomatic mission in Kiev on December 5.
The Ukrainian side expressed concern over the words of Tokayev towards Crimea in the interview with the German television broadcaster.
This sparked a public outcry on social media.
"We still suffer a provincial thinking. This is seen on our discussions around the international and foreign policy issues. Instead of protecting our interests, our expert audience is thinking of what others will think about us and what they will say, react and whether they are upset with us or not," Karin said on Telegram.
The President's advisor called the reaction of Kazakhstanis to the fact that the MFA of another country is allegedly preparing a demarche and summoned the Ambassador as "panic".
"These notes, demarche are a diplomatic routine, no need to make a big deal out of it. Honestly speaking, this is a last thing that should we care of, we should be pragmatic, protect first of all our own interests and not be adjusted to other opinions trying to be liked by them," Karin said.
