AKIPRESS.COM - The delegation of Kyrgyzstan is taking part in the UN Climate Change Conference COP 25, which is being held in Madrid, the Agency for Environmental Protection and Forestry reported.
The conference is chaired by Environmental Minister of Chile Carolina Schmidt.
The goal of the conference is further development of basic rules and procedures on implementation of the Paris Agreement.
The event is attended by more than 25,000 delegates from 190 countries of the world.
While opening the conference, the UN Secretary-General António Guterres called on the countries for more firm measures in fighting a climate change on the planet.
Guterres reminded that the impact of rising temperatures was already being felt around the world, and is having dramatic consequences for humans beings and biodiversity. He said that the world has the scientific and technical knowledge and means to slowdown global warming but what it was lacking was political will.
"Political will to put a price on carbon. Political will to stop subsidies on fossil fuels. Political will to stop building coal power plants from 2020 onwards. Political will to shift taxation from income to carbon. Taxing pollution instead of people."
"The point of no return is no longer over the horizon," Guterres stressed, "it is in sight and hurtling toward us."
The Agency says that the international community, including Kyrgyzstan, today is tasked to implement the Paris Agreement. Kyrgyzstan ratified the Paris Agreement on November 11, 2019.
