AKIPRESS.COM - The Parliament of Kyrgyzstan considered the first reading of the draft law on amendments to the law on HIV/AIDS of the Kyrgyz Republic. The bill was initiated by MPs Dastan Bekeshev and Baktybek Turusbekov (Bir Bol).
No one was prosecuted after a mass HIV infection of children in hospitals and no compensation was paid to their parents in 2007, according to Bekeshev.
According to the bill, the government should pay compensation to parents, whose children were infected in hospitals. The government supported the draft bill but said it is ready to pay the compensation from January 1, 2022.
635 children with HIV under 14 years are registered in Kyrgyzstan from 2005 to May 1, 2018. Among them, 381 children were infected HIV in the hospitals.
To date, 45 of them died, 27 - left the country. 309 children are registered in the regular medical check-up, 11 children are in first clinical stage 1, 66 - in second, 215 - in third, 17 - in fourth.
According to the initiators, the law enforcement bodies launched only 50 criminal cases from 2005 to 2018 in this direction.
The document is aimed at payment of compensation to parents of children HIV infected by the fault of medical workers in the state or municipal healthcare institutions. The bill provides at least 100,000 som compensation to parents.
