Over 9,600 acquired Uzbek citizenship over 3 years

AKIPRESS.COM - Some 9,692 people acquired citizenship of Uzbekistan during the last 3 years, including 5,868 this year, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said at the public ceremony on occasion of the 27th anniversary of adoption of the Constitution of Uzbekistan.
Much needs to be done still, the President of Uzbekistan added.
From 2007 to December 2016, Uzbek passports were not issued to foreigners and stateless persons. Only 482 obtained Uzbek passports from 1991 to 2007.
Some 95,857 stateless persons live in Uzbekistan now, which is 78.5% of all stateless persons in Central Asia, Kun.uz reports.
The Interior Ministry of Uzbekistan said earlier 49,228 people will acquire Uzbek citizenship, who were registered in Uzbekistan before 1 January 1995, but they still did not become citizens of Uzbekistan.
