AKIPRESS.COM - 117,000 passports got lost under the Interior Ministry, said the head of the State Registration Service Almaz Mambetov at the press conference in Bishkek on Dec 19. Mambetov noted that these cases were recorded since 1994, when the issuance of the first passports was launched and up to 2005.
"3 million of these passports were produced, however only 2.8 million passports were accepted and other 117,000 passports got lost. There were cases when 200-300 passports got lost in the district office of Internal Affairs and in the Passport Office," said Mambetov.
The head of the service noted that currently, it is impossible to obtain passport or driver's license without biometric.
"In 2009, the Passport Offices were transferred to the State Registration Service. All these cases related to loss of passports occurred until 2009," Mambetov said.
