AKIPRESS.COM - One of the important problems of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kyrgyzstan is uranium tailings, Vice-Speaker Mirlan Bakirov at the Parliament session today said.
The Parliament is considering the candidacy of Zamir Askarov for the post of Minister of Emergency Situations.
Bakirov asked the nominee how he will resolve the problem with uranium tailings.
Askarov said there are 92 uranium tailings in Kyrgyzstan today.
"We will direct all efforts for prevention of uraniun tailing problems. We will closely cooperate with IAEA and other international organizations and attract international financial institutes in this area," Askarov noted.
Bakirov warned that Maily-Say and Min-Kush are the most dangerous sites and that if tailings open in Min-Kush, then they will fall to the Naryn River.
