AKIPRESS.COM - The population of Kazakhstan grew by 1.29% (237,800 people) in 2019 reaching to 18,633 people by January 1, 2020, according to the reports of the statistics committee of the Ministry of National Economy of the country.
The growth was observed in 11 regions of the country, decrease - in 6 regions.
The population of Nur-Sultan increased by 5.34% up to 1,136,000 people. The city remains a leader on growth of the population.
Almaty holds the second place on rise of the population (3.36% - 1,917,000), and Mangistau region gained the third place (3.06% - 699,000).
A significant reduction was observed in North Kazakhstan region (-0.99%), The population of East Kazakhstan region decreased by 0.64%, Kostanay region - 0.49%, Akmola region - 0.25%, Pavlodar region - 0.20% and Karaganda region - 0.10%.
Migration growth was recorded in 4 regions of the country - Almaty, Nur-Sultan, Shymkent and Mangistau region.
Urban population of Kazakhstan rose by 1.84% last year, rural population - by 0.54%. The share of urban population increased from 58.2% to 58.5% in a year.
