Lawmakers propose to assign legal status to nikah

AKIPRESS.COM - The parliament committee for social affairs, education,science, culture and health care considered the draft amendments to some legislations in the sphere of civil registration on Feb 10. The bill proposes to simplify the adoption and paternity proof procedures.
The employees of the State Registration Service are offered to make amendments into birth record due to the adoption and paternity proof.
"For instance, the civil registry office's employee make amendments into the birth record on the basis of court decision on adoption and will issue new birth certificate with new information of adopted child," the draft law says.
In addition, the bill proposes to assign legal status to religious custom "Nikah" and refer it to civil status act.
According to the bill initiator MP Ishak Pirmatov, it will protect women who married on religious customs and their children.
