Kazakhstan considering organ donation law

AKIPRESS.COM - The Ministry of Health of Kazakhstan submitted amendments to the code on health of the nation and the healthcare system, which is being considered by the Parliament of the country, Sputnik Kazakhstan reported.
The amendments give a right to relatives of a deceased person to either allow or prohibit the cadaveric donation in case if the deceased did not do that while being alive.
Minister of Health Yelzhan Birtanov told this at the press conference on the results of the meeting with the WHO director in Kazakhstan.
A deemed consent for organ donation exists in Kazakhstan since 2009. The document in the same form was submitted for consideration of the Parliament but sparked a great resonance in the society.
Birtanov said this issue is reviewed in many countries very carefully.
Regional Director for Europe Hans Kluge at the meeting expressed his opinion on this issue.
According to him, the Parliament of Germany today is considering this issue.
"But each country adopts the norms of the cadaveric donation law taking into consideration the traditions of peoples living on its territory, history and readiness of the population," he said.
Birtanov noted that the problem is that the norm allows to take the organ of a person, if a dead person did not expressed any denial of organ donation.
