Turkmenistan to transit oil through Georgia for lower prices

AKIPRESS.COM - Georgia and Azerbaijan agreed on a tariff for transit of oil and oil products from Turkmenistan, Azerbaycan 24 reports. The agreement was reached during the meeting of heads of the JSC Georgian Railway and the JSC Azerbaijan Railways in Tbilisi. They signed the document on a seasonal import of oil products from Turkmenistan for lower tariffs.
The report says that the sides determined and agreed the constantly operating seasonal and through rates for permanent delivery of the named cargo.
As a result of the negotiations, the sides agreed on competitive, single tariffs for transit of Turkmen oil and oil products, the Georgian Railway said in statement.
Turkmenistan during the period from 2007 to 2008 exported about 200,000 tons of oil and oil products through the territory of Georgia. However, due to the unstable situation in Georgia, the route was changed through Makhachkala to Novosibirsk, TASS news agency says.
In 2015, after successful talks, the Turkmen oil products started to be exported to Europe again through Georgia.
