AKIPRESS.COM - President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed a law on ratification of the Convention of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization on Countering Extremism, Akorda reports.
The goal of the Convention is increasing effectiveness of cooperation of the SCO member states in the sphere of fighting extremism.
The Convention is tasked to mordernize the regulatory base of the SCO in countering extremism, launching of mechanisms of cooperation of the member states in prevention activities, joint fighting against extremism, providing legal aid and unification of the legislation of the sides.
In particular, the Convention introduces the concept of extremism as a destructive phenomenon first ever at the international level and determines its composition and basic forms of extremist activities subject to criminalization and forms mechanisms of cooperation of SCO member states in countering extremism, providing legal assistance and contributes to unification of laws of the countries.
The document regulates issues of transferring, deporting of convicts and providing legal aid and determines the rules of cooperation of countries in arresting and confiscating of properties of entities or individuals seized as a result of committing crimes covered in the Convention.
Implementation of the Convention will allow to toughen border cooperation with the member states on prevention of entrance of extremists to the SCO territory and increase effectiveness of cooperation with the relevant international regional organizations in taking measures on combating extremism.
