AKIPRESS.COM - A newly-founded Democratic Party of Kazakhstan announced that it will hold a rally against repression in Almaty on February 22 instead of the planned congress, Vlast.kz reported.
One of the initiators of creation of the party Zhanbolat Mamai told a press conference on Wednesday that it is impossisble to hold a congress, when their supporters are being detained in the regions.
He said that the party will hold a congress on another day.
"We can not make a congress now, when our supporters are in prison," a member of the party Inga Imanbai said.
Five activists of the Democratic Party were sentenced for 5 days recently for administrative offences.
Deputy Minister of Interior Marat Kozhayev denied any detentions of activists of the Democratic Party, who were heading to Almaty to participate in the congress.
Two days ago, Mamai told about the arson of a car of the activist from Zhanaozen Muratbai Zhumagaliyev.
Creation of the Democratic Party of Kazakhstan was announced in the middle of October 2019. It's leaders are journalist Zhanbolat Mamai, politician Tulegen Zhukeyev, journalist Sergey Duvanov, public worker Galym Ageleuv and others.
