AKIPRESS.COM - Prices for meat and meat products jumped strongly in Kazakhstan as January inflation reached 5.6%, Energyprom.kz reported.
A beef price climbed by 16.5%, lamb - by 16.2% and horse meet - by 14.5%.
Prices for food products increased by 9.2%.
Kazakhstan in Jan 2020 produced, processed and conserved meat and meat products for 21.1 billion tenge.
The country produced meat and meat products in-Dec 2019 for 269 billion tenge.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, capacity utilization of meat processing enterprises fluctuate only within 30-40%. This is due to the high level of export of live animal from the country, the Ministry said.
On January 20, 2020, the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan announced about a full ban on export of the live cattle from Kazakhstan. Then it was reported that a massive export of the live cattles caused a price speculation for meat products and decrease of utilization of meat processing plants and feedlots of Kazakhstan.
