Hundreds of people in East Kazakhstan demanded not to let coronavirus patients in country

AKIPRESS.COM - Residents of Zaisan district of East Kazakhstan region bordering with China protested on Feb 19 evening against "placement of coronavirus patients from China in local hospitals."
The protesters were taking mattresses out of the hospital as a sign of protest. They demanded not to let coronavirus patients in Kazakhstan.
Governor of East Kazakhstan region Danial Akhmetov said that the border with China is closed, and it's not possible right now for anybody to cross it. The governor denied the reports that citizens of China infected coronavirus would be hospitalized in Zaisan district.
"The border with China is closed. Therefore, I urge everyone to keep calm. Five our citizens who arrived from China will be quarantined. I will come in three days to personally control the situation," the governor said.
Kazakh Health Minister Elzhan Birtanov also commented: " Locals received fake news that Chinese residents would be quarantined in their villages. This is absolutely untrue and impossible, the border is closed."
