Above 2,400 crimes committed against minors in 2019: Lawmaker

AKIPRESS.COM - 2,462 crimes were committed against minors in 2019, including 184 serious crimes and 36 extremely serious crimes, said MP Jyrgalbek Turuskulov at the session of Respublika-Ata-Jurt faction on Feb 21. Turuskulov noted the necessity of the events in the preventing and combating violence against children and women.
"One of the acute issues in Kyrgyzstan is high level of domestic violence. Two women were killed by their husbands at the beginning of 2020. 15-year-old girl was abused by her father in the Aravan district. This is not a single case," said Turuskulov.
The horrifying violence cases against women and children should not go unnoticed by the government, said Turuskulov and urged the government to activate the work in this direction.
"President announced 2020 as a year of children support. We should pay attention to the their protection issues. 117,000 Kyrgyz citizens working abroad were returned to Kyrgyzstan from 2011 to 2019," he said.
