AKIPRESS.COM - Tashkent hosted a discussion of the draft National Strategy of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Human Rights, which will determine the main goals and directions of the state policy in ensuring human rights and freedoms on Feb 28, the official media report.
Deputies of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, representatives of the UN and OSCE, the National Human Rights Centre of the Republic of Uzbekistan, ministries and agencies, non-governmental non-profit organizations and Tashkent higher education institutions attended the event to get advice and make suggestions on improving the draft strategy.
Director of the National Human Rights Centre of the Republic of Uzbekistan Akmal Saidov noted that the Vienna Declaration and Programme of Action adopted at the World Conference on Human Rights in Vienna on June 25, 1993, recommended each state to develop a National Action Plan (Strategy) to improve the protection and promotion of human rights.
To date, more than 40 countries have adopted their own national human rights strategies.
